P45: Writer? Want to Start, Write More, or Finally Find Your Voice? This One’s for You.
An Open Invitation to Pause and Join the Conversation at Medium Day 2025

Welcome to Just One Pivot, Sunday’s pause to plan your next best move. If this was sent to you, subscribe to get your own copy next Sunday.
Greetings from Oxford!
I’ve been here for a few days now, mostly unplugged from social media, thinking, reflecting, and writing longhand in cafés. And may I just say: I needed the break.
That spirit of reflection actually began mid-flight from San Diego to London. Some flights are for sleeping. Mine? Not so much.
Scrolling through the movie list, I landed on The Matrix, that 1999 classic that imagined machines shaping human thought in a simulated world.
Back then, it felt like pure sci-fi. But as conversations about “cognitive debt” and AI-generated sameness flood our feeds, it suddenly feels a little too close to real life.
Here’s what I’ve been thinking: writing isn’t just about expression. It’s how we make sense of the noise and pain. It’s how we hold on to our humanity when the world feels disorienting. And that brings me to…
A Special Invitation
I’ve been invited to speak at Medium Day 2025 (this Friday, September 19), and I want you to be my special guest.
Medium Day is a FREE online conference that brings writers, readers, and editors together for one day of live sessions, meetups, and behind-the-scenes insights.
I’ll share three core stories from my journey as a researcher, coach, and storyteller to inspire you to nurture your writing practice and unique voice.
When you register, you can attend any session you want and learn from writers across the world, be inspired to pick up your pen on topics you’ve always wanted to explore, and strengthen your voice in a generous global community of writers, readers, and leaders.
This session is for you if…
You’re a writer or educator seeking fresh ways to connect ideas with audiences who are looking for you.
You’re a leader, entrepreneur, or communicator exploring how thought leadership can become part of your strategy to influence, inspire, and build trust.
You’re an academic navigating how to make your research more visible and impactful beyond the ivory tower.
Or simply, if you believe writing can be more than self-expression—that it can be a catalyst for clarity and connection.
Writing as a Pivot Point
Writing sharpens our ability to think clearly, awaken empathy, and lead with intention—three structural skills that matter most in the age of AI.
Don’t think of writing as a luxury for authors. Think of it as practice ground for clarity. Every sentence is a rep. Every story is a bridge. Every finished piece is a chance to understand and connect with others, and sometimes with the very parts of ourselves we’ve neglected.
This becomes especially clear for me in the wake of personal or global tragedy. For me, writing is the only place I’ve been able to put language around what doesn’t make sense. It’s where my scattered feelings gather into something that resembles a prayer—for family, for those mourning, and for our world that aches for something better.
If you too are struggling with the heaviness of a moment… or this moment, pick up a pen. Let your words carry the weight. Writing doesn’t erase pain or anger or confusion, but it offers a way to observe and process what we can’t otherwise.
Your Turn
I invite you to spend some time reflecting on what the gifts of a writing practice may be for you. And if you want to join me this Friday (or want to get a copy of the session’s recording), register today.

P.S. The fourth quarter is upon us—the window to finish strong and set the tone for 2026. That’s why the very first thing I do with founders and leaders is a 360° review. It cuts through noise, surfaces blind spots, and brings the clarity you need for bold decisions and goals.
