P31: Moving the World Looks Like a Tiny Pivot

Your next level of impact begins with one small, intentional choice.

Welcome to Issue #31 of Just One Pivot—now arriving as a Sunday afternoon read. Same focus, fresh format and timing, to spark progress where it matters most. If someone forwarded this to you, you can subscribe here.

Welcome. Bienvenue. Bienvenido. Karibu. Byenveni. Siyakwamukela. Willkommen. Fàilte.

No matter what your first language is, I’m thrilled you’re here.

I'm still buzzing from my global tour, now in its second week.

I want to tell you about my conversations because what I’ve learned applies to you and the difference you want to make.

But first I want to set the stage with an idea posed by the ancient Greek Mathematician and inventor, Archimedes:

“Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand, and I will move the world.

Archimedes wasn’t exaggerating. He was articulating the principle of leverage, the power of the pivot, that still governs how we move everything, from physical weight to human motion. More on that in a minute.

Now let’s return to the global conversations.

So go ahead. Pour your coffee or tea, take a breath, and picture yourself at the table with us.

Here’s how it started.

I published a few articles on Medium focused on critical human skills in the age of AI, like Curiosity, Empathy, and Foresight.

I started noticing that leaders from all over the world weren’t just reading them…

They were saving them.
Highlighting them.
Commenting.

Then they started resharing them on LinkedIn.

So, naturally, I reached out:

“Want to grab a virtual cappuccino?”

And just like that, I found myself in conversation with remarkable individuals, each one championing human strengths in an AI-powered world.

From Glasgow, London, France, Kenya, Australia, Haiti, Germany, South Africa, Mexico, Canada, Switzerland… and all across the U.S.

Like you, they’re making a real difference in their fields and communities: Executives, directors, founders, engineers, educators, and designers—working across tech, education, business, government, nonprofits, academia, and faith-based spaces.

I asked them:

“What made you read, engage, and reshare?

And here’s what they told me—which applies to you:

“The stories pulled me in.”

“I kept reading because the stories and the ideas just made sense.”

“I’ve been thinking about this too, but I didn’t have the words to tell the story.”

Pivot Perspective

As AI continues to take center stage, storytelling is your key human differentiator.

The leaders, educators, and change-makers who invest in honing this skill will stand out.

And by standing out, I don’t mean louder, flashier, or feeding the ego.

I mean: inspiring others to trust you, listen to you, and move with you.

Because in a world full of noise and confusion, the right story—told with clarity, sincerity, and purpose—still connects with hearts and minds.

Tiny Pivots. Big Shifts.

Let’s return to Archimedes’ metaphor: “Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand, and I will move the world.”

Empathy can be the lever that moves the world. I wrote about it here.

Storytellers move the world by evoking empathy and inspiring movement.

That’s what these tiny pivots are about.

*
If you don’t choose the story you want to tell, someone else will hand you one.

**
The stories you don’t tell often hold the clearest clues about who you really are.

You don’t need a script.

You need a moment that mattered—and the courage to share what it taught you.

***
Influence doesn’t come from perfect words.

It comes from knowing your story and telling it in a way that makes others remember their own.

The Uncommon Move

Very few will invest in storytelling mastery. Those who do will gain an undeniable edge.

If you’re ready to move the world, it’s time to see beyond your role and title. Claim your new identity: I am a Storyteller.

Then make it official: Craft your Storyteller’s Manifesto.

A manifesto isn’t a branding statement. It’s a bold declaration of what you believe and how you choose to live and lead.

Think of it as your personal North Star, a defining line in the sand that says:

This is who I am. This is what I stand for. This is how I intend to show up.

A Storyteller’s Manifesto goes further.

It’s not based on abstract ideals. It’s grounded in the real moments that shaped you: The ones that tested your courage, clarified your values, and reminded you who you are under pressure.

Start there. Let those stories guide how you lead, teach, influence, and move others forward.

You can take a deeper dive and learn how here.

Until next week,

Maria
